   2016-17 Newsletter

Dear Members

This newsletter is an opportunity to thank you all for attending on Tuesday evenings, sometimes surviving difficult traffic conditions, occasionally bad weather and recently a little disruption due to the building works at Roade Primary School.    We like to boast that our orchestra is one of the friendliest group of musicians of this type in Northamptonshire and will always welcome new members to join us.    Because most of you attend on a regular basis we are able to rehearse and play more interesting music.  An orchestra is always at its best when there is regular attendance throughout the year.

Some of the orchestra’s members travel from an incredible 20 mile radius to join us at our rehearsals which start at 6.30 p.m. at Roade Primary School.  Some even working in London and other places further away still make it as do parents with young families.

We hope that you are pleased with the variety of music provided to the orchestra each rehearsal which includes music of all types to keep us on our toes.

If there is anyone reading this letter who is not a member and would like to join please feel free to contact Ian Riley our MD/conductor on 07976427396 who would be pleased to speak to you.   Alternatively please come along to one of our rehearsals at Roade Primary School, Hartwell Road, Roade on Tuesday evenings in term time starting at 6.30 p.m. to 8.15 p.m.    We do not audition and if you feel that you would like to join us you will be made most welcome.

The orchestra is able to support a limited number of local functions throughout the school year.  As a registered charity we do not charge for our appearances but are grateful for any donations that help us pay for our rehearsal hall and buy new music.

Each year we hold three main concerts.

On Tuesday the 6th December 2016 December we will be holding our Christmas Concert which is open to members of the public.  Festive music, seasonal refreshments and a raffle of beautiful hampers make the evening worth a visit.   Anyone reading this newsletter are very welcome to bring along their family and friends as without an audience we do not have a concert.

Saturday 10th June 2017 starting around 2.00 p.m. we will be playing at the Maidford fete, situated in a rural location in the beautiful grounds of Maidford Rectory.    The orchestra will be playing a medley of tunes whilst visitors amble around traditional attractions.

Tuesday evening 4th July 2017 we will be holding our annual summer concert.  Normally this is in the grounds of Roade Primary School if the weather is kind.  However due to extensive building works taking place at the school the venue will be confirmed nearer the time.    The audience are invited bring along their garden chairs and picnic whilst we provide fruit punch and strawberries and cream.    In the event of bad weather we will play inside.

To make any concert a success we are always looking for volunteers, who are not playing instruments, to help with refreshments and ticket sales.    If you, or if you know of anyone willing to help please let us know.

Committee News

At the recent Annual General Meeting Ian Brown stepped down from the position of Chairman and Maggie Scott was elected to be our new Chairman.  Ian Brown will be a hard act to follow and we would all like to thank him for all his hard work over the past five years.    Also at the AGM Liz Coppard stood down from the position of Secretary due to her busy working life.  Once again we would like to thank her for all she has done and wish her well with her career.   We look forward to seeing them at rehearsals as usual.

Martin Beacher, who has been a member for many years, is leaving to get married and live in America.   We all send him our best wishes and would like to thank him for all his hard work in looking after the website, managing the “facebook” site, providing wonderful posters and tickets for our concerts.

We always welcome feedback from members, so please do not hesitate to speak to any of the committee so we can discuss how to keep improving things for you. We try to meet the needs of the majority but hope we can meet individual needs as well.

We would like to keep an up to date record of present members so please make sure we have your most recent email address and telephone number.  This is very helpful should we need to contact you so if you have changed your details recently please let Kelly Homan or Maggie Scott know.

Once again we really appreciate your support and hope that you will continue to attend each week.  Each individual instrument is a crucial part of the orchestra and is always required. If you have any ideas, information, queries or just anything you think other members would like to read please contact any of the committee.

If you would like anything mentioning in a future newsletter please let us know.
